There’s no place for love at this time in my life.

I envy those who achieve the balance of need.

Opportunities ignored in the interest of safe-ness,

flying toward my ability’s determined focus.

Children gone in their own living-dreams direction,

their lessons learnt and heeded.  My job’s complete.

Is this my way of avoiding the ‘empty nest’ syndrome;

gathering materials for comfort as I settle to old age?

Love is like taking a bus…

In my car, the seat belt secures,

holding steady against the bumps and sways,

harnessing against the change in equilibrium,

but I am on a bus – The Love Bus.

The corners are killers – no seat belt – no you!

I need you to steady my seat – hold my body still,

temper my impetuous reactions to change.

I need to be wrapped in bonds that secure,

sort out my floundering in an unfamiliar sea.

When the waves crash – you are prepared.

We are standing, weight evenly balanced,

both feet planted firmly in our future.

I lie in my bed and sail unfamiliar seas.

I am lost with no map, no guidance.

I still marvel because you love me.

Is the breeze which finds your sheets

as warm and strong – comforting,

as the sweet breathe of  this new life?

A promise of new love – remembered love.

Your pursed lips blow photographed kisses

across 10,000 miles. My wounded heart

responds – leaps in hope – wallows in want

too scared to expect love. Yet, convinced

by your confident words that all my dreams

are possible…

I can hear the sea outside my window

and the beat of the waves against the sand.

The glimpse of your face in the shadows,

tears down my cheek, splashing on my hand.

My paper’s all covered with lines that I write

trying to express what countless poets have said..

To put into different words how I fight the emptiness

of my room and the loneliness ahead.

I’m making my own unhappiness as punishment

for leaving you because I was proud

Waiting for a letter you may have sent,

trying to be happy with what surrounds.

There’s nothing that means very much to me.

What I want I can’t have – I did it to myself.

You’re not to blame because you couldn’t see

how serious all the little things were, that I felt, to me.

For those who didn’t go to Jessica McCallum’s linked pages in yesterday’s post, I thought I would share the other poem written to her second painting in the set.

Image---kept-finished

KEPT

Here I am, waiting for your touch,

pulling down the sun – shouting

screaming to be heard above

white noise; direct lines dedicated,

servers on your world wide web.

I feel the electric zings tingling

finger tips to toes, turn my cheek

expecting the slap as you run away…

Here I am – back, bigger (larger C drive) and hopefully better!

Still testing, but I’m sitting at my keyboard, and feeling good!

Thanks to all those who checked in while I was ‘away’ or wished me luck.

I’ve made loads of notes for postings to make up for the last 11 days…

Meantime another poem written to my daughter’s art.

Image---keep-finished

KEEP

It takes all my strength to pull this life to me,

To claw and tear my way from one day to another

Not counting, just tearing one more here in the glow

of the sun suffocated by rays of light and warmth

holding tight to ties that bind. I want to keep

these precious feelings and bask in your love forever

And I am…

looking through photos of days gone by

– your women – sharp intake of breath.

A caressing finger

tells me more

than words or deeds.

A hidden agenda

when revealed

shocks absolutely.

You laugh ‘Ha’ and say,

‘We’re talking about

OK, yes we are, but

in that moment

– in our time

you experience

pleasure –

that same tingle

you experienced

when your pen*s

responded

to a girl

everyone

lusted after.

And I am

…jealous.

My 40th Party – 1990

Welcome to September, an expensive month with the most birthdays of family and friends – and my own.

It was difficult for my daughter to fit in an afternoon tea to celebrate mine – so it’ll be a week late.   It’s Father’s Day the same weekend and since the divorce, naturally it’s a separate thing…

Seven September birthdays in all; two of my brothers (one turning the big seven ‘Oh’), my beautiful daughter-in-law and 3 very good friends.

I think Mum and Dad must have made sure they were together over Christmas to have three September babies, but then Christmas has always been a big social occasion in our family.

My dad’s birthday was New Year’s Eve so although we’d be spread around town celebrating with our friends, we always met up at midnight to raise a glass to dad.

I can always tell a Virgo or a Librian… or a Capricorn.   This 1973 poem is another from my 1968 notebook.

Did you know?

Did you know that Cancer

was compatible with Virgo?

No?

Well, it is.

So now, you

should take notice of me.

You’re so tall

you have to bend

to come through the door.

I’m so small

I have to jump

to reach the top shelf.

Funny, hey, that I

should fancy you

for myself?

And me,

so near the floor…

How’s the weather up there?

Do you know I care?

Well, I do.

I like an awful lot of things about you;

your blond hair, blue eyes and glasses.

Your big nose!

Even your massive

size ten feet

and huge toes.

Like thick fingers,

they’ve got character.

I tried on your shoes the other day

and shook with laughter.

They made me feel all feminine

because mine were so small,

compared…

I don’t even reach your shoulder

in platforms!

And yet…

When you hold me

or kiss me

or anything,

I feel nice.

All protected and loved

and I trust you,

completely

even when you’re driving

and you know how nervous I am

normally…

So you see,

the difference in height

doesn’t mean a thing, really

– does it?

Do you believe in the ‘Stars’?

Well, I do…

but that wasn’t why

I fell in love

with you.

Your contempt for my feelings

broke something inside – no, not

my heart, it was my soul…  You

judged me harshly, unworthy –

beneath your regard. In total

disgrace, I slunk away to heal.

I needed to breathe deeply,

to absorb the pain, swallow

before wearing silk again…
