Seph McKenna

Screenwest announces Seph McKenna as new Chief Executive Officer Screenwest Chair Janelle Marr has announced the appointment of Seph McKenna as the new Chief Executive Officer of Screenwest.

“I am delighted to announce that Seph McKenna has accepted our offer of appointment for a five-year term,” Mrs Marr said.

Mr McKenna, the current Head of Australian Production at Roadshow Films, has been appointed after an extensive recruitment process, involving a local, national and international search – the first non-government CEO appointment under Screenwest’s new corporate structure.

“Seph represents the next generation of screen sector leadership in Australia and will bring a wealth of film investment and production experience,” Mrs Marr said.

At Roadshow Films he is in charge of over 100 million dollars’ worth of production and local feature film projects and prior to this held positions at Village Roadshow and Warner Bros. Entertainment Group of Companies in…

So sad – but what a legacy!
And a fabulous tribute, as always.

Thom Hickey's avatarThe Immortal Jukebox

There are some sentences you know you will have to write one day.

Still you hope it wont be this year or next.

So, reluctantly and with regret, I write the following sentence.

Fats Domino, Rock ‘n’ Roll Forefather has died in his 90th year.

Thinking of all the immense pleasure his music has given me and millions of others I could not let such an event pass without a full salute from The Immortal Jukebox.

I also want to pay homage to the magnificent saxophonist Herb Hardesty who died just before Christmas last year.

That’s Herb you can hear soloing on, ‘Ain’t That A Shame’ and, ‘I’m Walking’ and that’s him too playing one of the most perfect parts in all Rock ‘n’ Roll on, ‘Blue Monday’.

I am also adding what may be my all time favourite Fats track – ‘Be My Guest’.

A record which beautifully illustrated…

And so it goes

So interesting… as always, Liz.

The first time I realised that my father had moved from the forgetfulness of ageing into something more sinister, was the day he opened a package from his oldest friend, and found something he’d never seen before.

‘Ron’s sent me a plastic thing,’ he told me, ‘with brown tape in it. Never seen anything like it before.’

He and Mum had just arrived for lunch, an extraordinary forty-five minutes late.

‘Your father got us lost,’ Mum explained. The lateness didn’t matter, but it was alarming as they lived only fifteen minutes drive away and Dad had driven back and forth many times.

‘Here,’ he said shoving a small package into my hands, ‘see if you can work this out.’

The package contained a cassette wrapped in a sheet of notepaper held in place with an elastic band. I unwrapped it and read the note. Ron had written that the arthritis…

A major national tour is underway this month for Ben Elton’s big-hearted ensemble comedy Three Summers, ahead of a hometown screening on Thursday October 26 at the Grand Cygnet Cinemas in Como.

This will kick off a week of Q&A screenings and appearances at Perth cinemas, including a special charity screening in Mandurah for the local Peel region where the film was shot last year.

Ben Elton will be appearing at five special events in Perth in the lead up to the film’s theatrical release on November 2 in cinemas everywhere.

‘‘It was a joy and a privilege to make Three Summers in WA, a state I have called home for many years, and I am greatly looking forward to sharing it with audiences at the many exciting events planned in Perth, Freo and Mandurah in the lead up to the release,” says Elton.

Fusing romance, music and Ben…
