Senses

hear

tender words
questions answers
your current reality

see

furtive glance
visual dance
clever hands and fingers

touch

tentative press
to shy flesh
still clothed in other loves

smell

breathe you in
where’ve you been
through all my loves and life

Boxes

so much time

spent in boxes

hemming minds

hearts horizons

so many boxes

to spend time in

we choose

others dictate

boxes to play

or earn a living

sky-high mine deep

beach view asleep

boxed we’re born

returned again

bush delivery or

crispy clean

symbolic boxes

that drive insane

chasing a dream

others ideals

boxing all pleasure

imprisoning pain

impossible striving

material gain

in every life

the very last box

delivers a eulogy

all gather to see

illustrating a life

lived in boxes

“I do remember being affected by words from a teacher who sat at my college’s French table. She said, basically (and in French) “being shy is worrying too much about what other people think of you. Shyness is a form of self-absorption.” It wasn’t pleasant to hear, because I am a shy person. Her view put a whole new spin on my feelings. It did a lot to force me out of my shyness.”

Paul O. Zelinsky has illustrated thirty-odd books for children, written some of them, and been awarded numerous honors, including the Caldecott Medal for Rapunzel and three Caldecott Honors.

Phonecall

I don’t believe

in forever

anymore.

I know

you don’t have

room in your life

for love

or me.

But friendship

is a two-way street.

I needed

to know

that somebody

cared…

that you cared.

I guess I dialled

the wrong number.

I wrote this piece at Uni 15 years ago and could not have foreseen just how radically the WWW would:

impact my life and show me how to step into love again…

effect the world; it’s so much easier to share our IDEAS (good or not so)…

hardcover BOOKS (hand held) went out but are in fashion again…

UNFORTUNATELY whole countries can make the web world go dark on a whim.

4 Sleeps ’til Christmas

The party’s over… and

judging by the sound levels

as everyone arrived at once,

they were all in the mood

to catch up on family news

since last year and indulge.

My grandies sang carols,

waved sparklers as the sun set

and sat at a special kids table

for all the littlest guests.

I tried to freeze-frame certain

moments between cousins,

brothers and sisters and dads,

for future reference. Noted

changed shapes and faces, hair

colours and sparkly shoes.

Loved every moment, surrounded

by those I hug as often as I can,

now the party’s over, I can sew…

finish those last minute pressies.

And the tree survived little hands!

Only 4 sleeps before Christmas Day.

A friend shared

some food art, so

we incorporated

built enthusiasm

for the family BBQ.

Until the carols

I was too busy

feeding guests

to notice them

not here to share

~ to sing with joy.

Then I saw

the faces of Ryder

and Tais light up

watching their Dad

play guitar and sing.

And I smiled.

Like tears,

rain hits my umbrella.

Bouncing, bursting

droplets scattering,

spreading my pain.

Shimmering images.
