For my super-fit little brother, it started on Tuesday with routine and minor day surgery on his sportsman’s knee which suddenly and shockingly turned into “Anaphylactic Shock” – with no history of allergies.
Two days in ICU ‘asleep’ and another two days of Coronary exploration which will be followed by more tests. In the meantime, he has to accept the awfulness, the reality of coming so close to not being here…
The whole family thanked the powers-that-be for the excellent hospitals, doctors, nurses and all ’round care given unstintingly as a matter of routine, and the moments of sincere patience while we questioned.
So while his body shows the bruising, his throat clears of invasion and his heart and it’s many byways revert to their normal healthy selves, we are all a little more watchful and a little more determined to get healthy.
I never want to go through that again and wouldn’t wish it on anyone – least of all my family.
